Ruth Evelyn Jones passed away July 18, 2021 at the age of 94, surrounded by her family. She was born to John and Evelena James on May 9, 1927 in Bower, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe H. Jones, parents, sisters Jesse, Jewel and Betty and brother John. She is survived by her 3 children Curtis Jones, Linda Hill and Cynthia Labossiere (Rick), 4 grandchild­ren Christophe­r Hill, Katherine Jennings (Brandon), Drew Zella and Jack Labossiere, 3 great grandchild­ren Micah, Uriah and Vera Jennings, brother Bill and sister Carolyn. Ruth earned a Bachelor degree in Physical Education from Northeaste­rn State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She taught Physical Education, worked as a Profession­al Girl Scout Trainer and as tennis pro. She was a founding member of the National Senior Women’s Tennis Associatio­n. She played in many local, state and National tennis tournament­s achieving National ranking. She earned the first Chris Evert Houston Ladies Tennis Associatio­n Service Award. Ruth became an avid golfer playing all over including Country Place where she lived. She camped in most of the Texas State & National Parks and loved bird watching, gardening and raising butterflie­s. She was a wonderful friend to everyone with her giving heart, big smile and twinkling eyes. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made to First Christian Church or to the National Audubon Society. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sun, Aug. 22, 2021 at First Christian Church 1601 Sunset Blvd Houston, Texas.
