Game ranch hit by dog attack; dozens of deer die

- From staff reports

A pack of dogs killed dozens of deer at a Porter game ranch Thursday night, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.

John Christlieb, a game rancher permitted by Texas Parks and Wildlife, heard barking and went outside with his gun to find six dogs attacking his deer, he told the media outlet. The rancher shot one dog and scared off the others.

“These dogs were just in a frenzy, a blood frenzy,” Christlieb said.

The dogs killed 15 fawns and nine adult deer, Christlieb said. Only one deer in the pen survived the attack, although the rancher has five more pens of deer. He estimated that the deadly attack cost him up to $150,000.

The ranch is protected by an electric fence and multiple other security measures, but the rancher told the Montgomery County Reporter that he thinks the dogs dug through a barn to get onto his property.
