BETTY K. MOORE
1931-2021
Betty K. Moore, a loving mom, wife, friend, and 50 year resident of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away on Sunday July 25, 2021. She was 89.
Betty is survived by her children Tom Moore and wife Mary Moore, Peggy Elliott and husband Ross Elliot, Tim Moore and wife Viki Moore, along with her brother Bob Klein, and grandchildren Patrick Moore, Bobby Moore, Joe Moore, Christine Vest, Hanna MacDougall, Carolyn Moore, and four great grandchildren, Brody, Wyatt, Brock and Cecilia.
Betty was born in Chicago on November 28, 1931 to Florence and Robert A.
Klein. She went on to graduate from Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, IN. She was a lifelong Notre Dame fan. Her daughter Peggy followed her to Saint Mary’s, her brother Bob, son Tom and grandson Joe all graduated from Notre Dame. A lifetime Catholic, she arranged her mass schedule to accommodate watching ND football games. Her parish was St Laurence, but she also was a long time member of the Teresians, a women’s church group.
Betty met her husband, Jim, when she was a copyright editor at Allstate Insurance. Jim and Betty would marry on February 5, 1955. Jim’s career at Allstate took the family from Chicago to Houston to Berkeley Heights, NJ back to Chicago to Atlanta and finally to Sugarland. Betty made lifelong friends along the way. Her handwritten and thoughtful Christmas cards were part of her commitment to sharing her life with friends. She was intentional in her friends lives, helpful and supportive.
Always competitive, Betty loved sports and games. She played golf and tennis into her late 70’s at Sugar Creek Country Club. She played golf with her husband Jim, and the ladies golf association.
She loved playing card games, including bridge with friends and Uno with her grandchildren! She played fantasy football with her extended family, and was always the first to trash talk! Betty was a lifetime learner. She was a docent at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts for almost 30 years. She volunteered at Mamie George library for 25 years.
Betty had a love of travel. She arranged trips to every state, cruises for family, international trips with Jim, Peggy, Bob Popejoy and friends. She built memory books for her trips to China, Russia, Egypt, Eastern Europe among her many trips. Over the years, she would host home parties in which her son Tim would frequently bartend and she would always compose and read a poem for the occasion.
Betty’s most important roles were mom and wife.
She participated in many family activities and hustled her kids to sports, scouting and summer camps. She was a strong and positive role model, knowing when to be helpful and when to let her kids struggle to sort out life’s challenges. Despite growing up in Chicago, she was a Texan and loved all things Houston.
Betty lead a full and adventurous life. She will be missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Landon Ridge Assisted Living facility, Fairmont Hospice and Home Watch caregivers of Sugar Land. A private family burial will be held at Forest Park Funeral Home. A celebration of life and Catholic Memorial mass will held for friends and family on Monday, August 30 at 10:00 am at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugarland TX. A reception will follow at the Parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN.
