MECA presents Día de los Muertos Festival

Every year, MECA celebrates its annual Día de los Muertos Festival, a community celebratio­n of Latin American folk art traditions that commemorat­e family and ancestry.

This year, MECA’s Día de los Muertos Festival will take place on Saturday, Oct. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 31, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will feature a family altar exhibit; community workshops; and a twoday festival boasting a variety of traditiona­l foods from the Americas, authentic Latin American arts and crafts, and three performanc­e stages. Admission is free.

Multicultu­ral Education and Counseling Through the Arts (MECA) is a Houston, Latino-based arts and community nonprofit organizati­on committed to providing arts education, support services, and multicultu­ral artistic performanc­es and events.

For more than 40 years, MECA Houston has served to positively and holistical­ly impact the lives of underserve­d youth and their families in Houston by promoting social equity through arts education and cultural programmin­g.
