LOUISE L. YOUNG

1932-2021

-

Louise Lillian Young passed into the heavenly realm on Monday, June 21, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born in Paris, France in 1932. She is preceded in death by her parents Maurice & Rose Oster and younger sister Maggie Sontag.

Her family fled Paris months before Hitler’s invasion, and temporarily relocated in the West Indies. They then settled in Brooklyn, NY where she grew up. Being uprooted from her birthplace and the loss of extended family in the Holocaust greatly affected her throughout her life.

Louise had a lyric soprano, operatic voice and was discouraged from pursuing a singing career yet sang for her own enjoyment. After marrying, moving to Texas and raising three children, she worked in sales as a gregarious, friendly person who could talk to anyone. She sold beepers, ad specialties & insurance and worked in the family business, including buying trips to gift shows.

Louise had a lovely, infectious laugh and was well loved by her family & friends and by her caregivers in the last years of her life. A true survivor always, she pushed herself even with the odds stacked against her with dementia.

Some of Louise’s favorite activities included mah jong, puzzles, soap operas and bowling with her league.

She loved dressing up and while pink was her favorite color she balanced it all out carefully. She loved the thrill of casino winnings and was a little bit competitive when others were winning more than she. She loved traveling to New York, attending Broadway shows, and eating delicious food. She loved Old-time songs and movies from the 30’s, 40’s & 50’s and especially loved spending time in her extra large backyard.

Louise kept a kosher home for 24 years. Her favorite family meals to cook were Friday night chicken dinners & Sunday morning eggs & onions. Our Dad and us kids all enjoyed!

Louise deserved more credit than she received in her life because she was super smart, creative and a great entertainer. Plus her funny out-of-the-box thinking usually stimulated others to have new ideas.

She is survived by her sister Madeleine Goldman,

1st husband: Herbert Young, daughters: Wendy G Young & Nancy McGahey, son Marc Young, daughter-in-law Melissa, grandchildren: Nicholl, Shaun, Kayla & Hannah, nieces: Susan, Denise, Bonny, Ginny & Heidi, nephews: Dale, Robert, Dan, Todd & Marshall.

We LOVED our Mom! May she rest in peace!
