2022 Benefit Homes Project set in motion

-

Chesmar Homes, a trailblazer within Houston’s homebuilding industry on many levels, recently built and sold its seventh GHBA Benefit home. The home was built with donated materials, labor and services by GHBA members. The goal is to recruit as many donations as possible so that the home is built at little cost and then sold at market value. The majority of the proceeds are presented to two local charities, HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home. This 41-year-old charity fundraiser has raised more than $12 million.

“Chesmar didn’t even blink when they heard we were recruiting a builder for 2021, and this was during the height of the pandemic,” said Patrick Mayhan, chairman of the fundraiser. “That reflects on the confidence Chesmar has in their product, the market, and their commitment to giving back to the community.”

The Benefit Homes team is looking to 2022 for another builder/developer team that is embracing the challenges a pandemic can pose to the construction industry.

“It is often difficult to find enough construction workers and materials to build homes right now,” said Mayhan. “This is a unique time we are in, but I know that there are builders and developers in the Houston area who are not deterred by this and are optimistic enough to stand up to the challenge.”

The Benefit project has never, in more than 40 years, not built a home in a calendar year.

“The charities will be able to count on the GHBA members to come through for them,” Mayhan said.

Chesmar built its home in the popular community of Lago Mar, a Texas City community developed by Land Tejas. This lot was also a donation and reflects the generosity of Land Tejas within the greater Houston region, as it is its 18th lot donation.

Vendors and suppliers who stepped up to donate to Chesmar’s home included: Builders Post Tension, Crossville, DataSmart, Boan-Nu Tone, Houston Window Fashions, Templar Electric, Houston Hurricane, The Ark Cast Stone, Austin Windstorm Construction, Stewart Door Co., Perfection Wholesale, GE Appliances, Master Brick, Action Landscape, Sprint Sand & Clay, Tony’s Insulation, Seybro Door & Weatherstrip, BMC Lumber & Millwork, All Points Surveying, Surface Systems of Texas, Bac Trac Plumbing, Rock Materials, Simpson Strong-Tie, A-Tak Pest Control, Flooring Services, GAF, Southeast Tile and TopBuild Home Services.
