John Richard Glaze, 81, of Pearland, Texas died August 23, 2021. Son of Cecil and Lola Glaze, younger brother to Francis Ulmer and older brother to the late Joe Glaze, and loving husband of Jacqueline Glaze. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Melendez, his son Ed and wife, Beth Glaze, and daughter Regina and husband, Mike Paley. By his grandchild­ren, Phillip, Austin, Michael, and spouse, Claudia Glaze, Catherine Vallance, and spouse, Tulio Boutkan, Brittany and spouse, Kilika Spencer. He is also survived by his greatgrand­children; Marley and Lucy Glaze, Adaline Boutkan, Anela and Kalahao Spencer, Luke and Morgan Paley, plus other beloved family members. Since John was nine years old, he has collected model trains. It became a life-long hobby for him. He turned his two-car garage into a model railroader­s dream. In 1969 John started in his position as a conductor and then as general manager of the Hermann Park Train. Mayor Bill White honored John by proclaimin­g October 2, 2007, as “JOHN GLAZE DAY” for his dedication and service to the City of Houston, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and millions of riders, young and old, who have ridden the rails of the Houston Park Train to celebrate life and feel the freedom children enjoy in the park. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Services will be held September 11, 2021, at South Park Funeral Home. Public viewing begins at 1:00 p.m. and services at 2:00 p.m.
