MOSES HERNANDEZ
1948-2021
Moses Hernandez “A Legend,” was called to be with the Lord at 72 on August 26, 2021.
He was born in Pawpaw, Michigan on November 4, 1948, to Luciana Ortiz and Aurelio Hernandez of Goliad, Texas. The oldest of ten children.
As very successful crop pickers, the Hernandez family traveled all over the US to gather crops. At the time of Moses’ birth picking cherries in Michigan proved to be rewarding. He was raised in the Second Ward Community of Houston, TX (Segundo Barrio). Moses was an active philanthropist for the Backto-School Supply Giveaway sponsored by the Morales Memorial foundation, in which he found tremendous pride and honor to serve and give back to his childhood community.
He is survived by the love of his life, most loyal and dedicated wife of nearly 48 years, Lucia, Daughter’s
Petra H. (husband Fabian Martinez), and Luciana H. (husband Leon Gonzalez Jr.) Moses and Lucia built their life around their two daughters and sons-in-law. They enjoyed many wonderful times as a family and created great memories together, especially when deer hunting together on the ranch in South, Texas.

Mary Hernandez, and Janie Hernandez, Brother, Hector Hernandez (wife Esmer), Brother-in-Law’s, Jimmy Rodriguez, Manuel Rodriguez (wife Marylou), Rudy Rodriguez (wife Tammy), Sister-in-Law’s, Clemencia Colon and Pauline Rodriguez, numerous nieces and nephews who called him “Uncle Pretty Moy”, grandchildren, grand dogs, and extended family. Moses was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, mentor, and great friend to everyone.
He is preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Father, Sister’s Minerva and Aurelia, and Brother’s Robert, Noel, and Johnny.
Moses began his lifetime career in the Sheet
Metal Fabrication Industry, working for nearly 30 years in partnership with his Coopwood Air-Conditioning family, as a devoted and valued Sheetmetal Foreman Mastermind. He could construct anything out of sheet metal, to perfection.
Moses had many qualities to admire, but there is one achievement that often gets forgotten in today’s mad rush, for more formal schooling and that is self-education. As a self-taught scholar, Moses, was a Jack of all Traits, and a hardworking man. He enjoyed sharing his efforts and knowledge with everyone who was willing to listen and learn.
Just to list a few; began working at age 13 to help his mother support the family, showed talent of being a technical artist by age 10. Fighting at the colosseum for the golden gloves boxing championship at age 19, Vaquero rodeo bull riding competitions at age 21, designing and manufacturing a sheet metal race car, physically butterfly-stitching wounds of his daughters, nieces and nephews. Handcrafted numerous BBQ pit smokers, oversized all-metal hunting blinds, and all-season turkey and deer gravity feeders. Learned to process and package his family’s venison sausage and jerky by hand, and brilliantly produced his own rounds for the upcoming rifle hunting season. There was not one thing Moses couldn’t teach himself to do. He would set his mind to it, and master it.
Moses touched the hearts of so many with his Heart of Gold. Through his charismatic personality to connect and teach others; he never met a stranger. Moses lived his life to the fullest, by being present in the “now” with every moment. Moses is a Legend and leaves an unforgettable impression on others.
The Celebration of Life will be held in his childhood community, at the Morales Funeral Home located on 2901 Canal Street Houston, TX 77003: Tuesday, Sept. 7th from 4pm-8pm visitation, 5pm Mariachi’s serenade, 6pm Rosary service. The Mass Service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church located on 2405 Navigation Blvd. Houston, TX 77003: Wednesday, Sept 8th at 10am, followed by the Burial at Woodlawn Funeral Cemetery located on 1101 Antoine Dr. Houston, TX 77055 at 12pm. Reception to follow. The family is asking for Mask requirement.
