CAPT. STEWART GRESHAM CORRY

-

1932-2021

Capt. Stewart Gresham Corry, 89, of Clear Lake, our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away of natural causes at home with family by his side on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. A Houston resident his entire life, Stewart was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling the world, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Attending Piney Point Maritime Academy, Stewart was commissioned by the Governor of Texas and became a Houston Harbor Pilot in 1975 where he spent the next 25 years safely guiding ships through the 50-mile course of the Houston Ship Channel, considered by many to be the most difficult pilotage in the world because of its long and narrow dimensions, and heavy vessel traffic. Prior to becoming a Houston Pilot, Stewart was employed by ITT and G&H Towing Company. At 17-years-old, he started as a deckhand on tugboats as a summer job while attending Sam Houston High School. Eventually, Stewart became captain of a tugboat until attending the Maritime Academy at 43-years-old. Stewart is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Jo Ann Corry and his two sons and their spouses, Henry and Aline Corry of Webster, and Chris and Liz Corry of Nokesville, Virginia, and four grandchildren, Ellie Corry, Nathalie Corry, Gina Corry and Ruby Corry.
