‘Permitless carry’ takes effect; voting bill passes
Gov. Greg Abbott signed a slate of gun-related laws, ranging from technical changes, like allowing Texans to carry a gun in any type of holster to more broad political statements, such as declaring Texas a Second Amendment “sanctuary state.” The most prominent, and controversial, of the laws was the so-called “constitutional carry” legislation, House Bill
1927, in which Texans age 21 and over can carry a handgun in public without a permit or training.
On Tuesday, after a six-month siege due to Texas Democrats staging two walkouts, Texas Republicans passed the elections bill to further stiffen Texas voting rules — already among the nation’s toughest. Abbott is expected to sign it the controversial measure.
