TIIR Memorial Hermann has been changing lives since day one.
Founded in 1959, TIRR Memorial Hermann was one of the first polio treatment centers in the nation, originally established as the Southwestern Poliomyelitis Respiratory Center. The expertise developed in treating polio would prove valuable and applicable to other disabling injuries and illnesses. In 1978, the hospital changed its name to The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR), and in 2006, upon becoming part of the Memorial Hermann Health System, it became known as TIRR Memorial Hermann.
