BARBARA (SHEFFIELD) OBERSCHALL
1935-2021
Barbara Sheffield Oberschall, 86, died unexpectedly July 26, 2021 at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital with her two children, Derek Oberschall and Sandy Plumb, by her side. She was born April 4, 1935 in Brunswick, GA. The daughter of Donald H and Shirley (Tuttle) Sheffield. Barbara graduated from Mt. Pleasant HS, in 1953. Following graduation, she studied psychology at Bucknell University and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduation in 1957, Barbara spent several years working in NYC. At the age of 24 she married Victor George Oberschall in 1959. They lived in Hartsdale and Armonk, NY during this time and were members of Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY. In 1979 they moved to Houston TX, where they joined Raveneaux Country Club. They enjoyed golf and tennis and many travels to Europe, Hawaii and Napa Valley with family and friends. Before her husband’s death in 2014, they celebrated 54 years of marriage. Barbara was a loyal member of the Norchester Garden Club and House Assembly of Delphian. In addition, she enjoyed tennis, golf, volunteering, book clubs, bridge, travel, good food and fine wine and hardy political debates.
Surviving, in addition to her son and daughter, Derek Oberschall of Tampa, FL and Sandy (Oberschall) Plumb of Fair Oaks, CA are her brother Donald A. Sheffield and his wife Chris of NH, her brother-in-law Anthony Oberschall and wife Aida of Chapel Hill, NC. Sister-in-law Liz Savage of
CT. Daughter-in-law, Ellen Oberschall. Son-in-law, Brian Plumb. Granddaughter’s Leila Oberschall and Nicole Plumb. Grandson’s Victor William Oberschall and Charles (Trey) Crandell and wife Brianne, and greatgranddaughter, Genevieve Crandell as well as niece Sarah Oberschall and nephew’s Alex Oberschall, Scott Sheffield, Jason Savage and Todd Savage.
A service of remembrance will be held at Klein Funeral Home on Champions Forest Dr. on September 18th at 2:00 PM.
