Northern Colorado keeps Houston Baptist winless

Northern Colorado took advantage of two intercepti­ons from quarterbac­k Blaise Bentsen to beat the Huskies 45-13 on Saturday at Husky Stadium.

Houston Baptist dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Bears took a 14-0 lead off two quick touchdowns from Gene Sledge

The Huskies cut the deficit to 14-6 in the second quarter from Gino Garcia. Houston Baptist was driving but Aaron Harris intercepte­d Bentsen and returned it for a score.

Bentsen finished 19 of 38 for 207 yards and a touchdown. The Huskies were held to only 59 rushing yards.

UTSA 54, LAMAR 0

Sincere McCormick rushed for two touchdowns to set a UTSA record, Josh Adkins passed for two scores and the Roadrunner­s opened their home season at the Alamodome by earning the first shutout in program history.

Despite having just 185 yards at the half, the Roadrunner­s (2-0) led 34-0 because of two big plays and holding Lamar to 56 yards.

Sheldon Jones opened the scoring 3 minutes in by returning a punt 76 yards for a touchdown. In-between McCormick’s touchdowns Charles Wiley had a 44-yard fumble return.

SMU 35, NORTH TEXAS 12

In Dallas, Ulysses Bentley IV rushed 10 times for 141 yards and a touchdown as the Mustangs (2-0), who led 7-6 at halftime exploded for 28 second-half points. Jace Ruder was 32 of 51 for 366 yards and a touchdown, and Roderic Burns had 12 catches for 141 yards.

In Miami, Brock Sturges scored the winning touchdown in overtime to give the Bobcats their first victory of the season.

Sturges carried nine times for 43 yards and scored twice. Quarterbac­k Brady McBride was 18 of 31 for 165 yards and a touchdown.

The Cardinals took a 30-0 halftime lead at Benson Stadium in San Antonio. Jawon Pass threw three intercepti­ons for the Panthers (1-1).
