WHEN THE BROWNS PASS

-

Baker Mayfield threw for 321 yards against the Chiefs. Most impressive was his 11.5 yards per attempt. With Odell Beckham Jr. out again, Mayfield will rely on Jarvis Landry and tight ends David Njoku and Austin Hooper. Mayfield also likes to utilize Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt out of the backfield. Hunt is so quick and fast it’s difficult for a linebacker to cover him. Landry is dangerous on short and intermediate routes but can still get behind the secondary. That should be difficult to do if the Texans are playing cover 2. Against the Jaguars, the Texans were able to pressure Trevor Lawrence enough to force him from the pocket and make him throw wildly on the run. That’s going to be tough to do against the Browns because Mayfield is protected by an outstanding line. Defensive coordinator Lovie Smith will mix his coverages and play more man than he used to, but pressure is paramount. The Texans will use every lineman who’s active and hope they find a combination that can cause Mayfield to be off target with his throws.
