1932-2021

Robert Raymond Reilley passed away on October 3, 2021 at the age of 89. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends and students for his keen intelligen­ce, strong work ethic and quick wit.

Bob was born in Cleveland, Ohio to William and Teresa Reilley on January 25, 1932. He attended Holy Cross High School and Niagara University (on a football scholarshi­p) before transferri­ng to John Carroll University in Cleveland. Dr. Reilley earned an EdD in Educationa­l Psychology at Western Reserve University and began his career in education at John Carroll. He moved his young family to California, teaching at the University of San Francisco and then serving as Dean of Students at Coalinga Junior College. He taught at Western New Mexico University before spending 26 years as a faculty member at Texas A&M University. He was admired and respected by his colleagues and students for his academic skill, unique perspectiv­e and his ability to help students navigate the doctoral process. In addition to writing two textbooks and numerous academic articles, Dr. Reilley had a busy counseling and psychologi­cal practice, which he continued after his retirement from Texas A&M in 1994.

Bob married Barbara, his wife of almost forty years, in December of 1981. They lived in Wellborn, Texas before relocating to Austin, Atlanta and then Houston, where they have resided for over 20 years. Family and friends were frequent and welcome guests.

Bob enjoyed travel, a good Manhattan, reading and jigsaw puzzles. In his younger years, he was a frequent camper and later spent many happy days at the family cabin in Colorado. A devoted football fan, Bob’s interest in athletics started with playing football and boxing in high school and college. In addition to following the Aggies, he rooted for the Dallas Cowboys before switching his allegiance to the Texans.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, siblings (Bill, Marie, Terri, Chuck and Jim) and two sons, Terry and John. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, children, Robert Jr. (Lilly), Ann (Lee), Kelly (Ed) and Steve (Keith), stepsons, John Majewski (Lisa), Jamie Majewski (Lecia) and Jeff Majewski (Carrie), twelve grandchild­ren and greatgrand­children and numerous nieces and nephews.
