WHEN THE TEXANS RUN

-

When the Texans run? How about when the Texans ran? That would be back in the first game of the season when they gashed Jacksonville for 160 yards. They haven’t run for more than 82 yards since that game. They’ve had 42 and 48 in the past two losses to Carolina and Buffalo. The linemen continue to struggle on run blocking, and pathways are few and far between for the backs. If the Texans continue to fail at generating a running game, defenses are going to take it out on rookie quarterback Davis Mills. He’s not a threat to run like Tyrod Taylor. Defenses can stack the box and shut down the run. Defenses don’t need to put eight around the line of scrimmage to stop this running game. Mark Ingram is the leading rusher with 171 yards on 52 carries. His carries have diminished because they still use the running back-bycommittee approach, and it still doesn’t work. Offensive coordinator Tim Kelly has a different role for Ingram, David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay, and there’s no consistency. Left guard Tytus Howard continues to struggle after moving from right tackle. He and left tackle Laremy Tunsil make the left side better on pass protection, but they can’t get a push on run blocking, either.
