Prairie View holds on for win
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Jawon Pass threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns and Prairie View beat winless BethuneCookman College 35-29 on Saturday.
Bethune-Cookman countered with a four-play, 71-yard drive that took 78 seconds and concluded with Devin Black throwing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Overton to reduce the deficit to 35-29 with 3:57 left.
The Panthers (5-1, 4-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took the ensuing kickoff and held the ball for the rest of the game.
Black threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats (0-7, 0-4).
GRAMBLING 34 TEXAS SOUTHERN 20
Myron Stewart raced 70 yards with a recovered fumble and Quin Mitchell returned an interception 75 yards for a score to give Grambling a win over Texas Southern in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game at Grambling, La.
Javius Williams returned a Grambling fumble 44 yards for a score, but Elijah Walker scored from a yard out with 5:04 left to seal the win for Grambling (3-4, 2-2).
Andrew Body was 16 of 25 for 172 yards and a touchdown for
Texas Southern (2-4, 1-2).
SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA 61 HOUSTON BAPTIST 24
Cole Kelley completed 31-of-38 passes for 396 yards and five touchdowns as the Lions routed the Huskies at Hammond, La.
Austin Mitchell caught five passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns, while CJ Turner had four catches for 72 yards and a touchdown for the Lions (5-1, 4-0 SLC)
Freshman quarterback Orion Olivas completed 23-of-42 passes for 239 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Huskies (0-6, 0-3 SLC). Freshman linebacker Rodney Dansby tied the HBU single-game record with 19 tackles.
INCARNATE WORD 38 NICHOLLS 21
Cameron Ward threw for 388 yards and connected with Taylor Grimes for four touchdowns, and the Cardinals downed the Colonels at San Antonio.
Grimes caught nine passes for 182 yards to set the single-game school record for touchdowns receptions.
Kevin Brown rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown for Incarnate Word (5-1, 3-0 Southland).
Lindsey Scott Jr. had a rushing and passing touchdown for Nicholls (2-4, 1-2).
TROY 31, TEXAS ST. 28
Kimani Vidal ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns, Keyshawn Swanson had a fourth-quarter interception return for a touchdown, and the Trojans held off the Bobcats at San Marcos.
Brady McBride threw his third interception and Troy (4-3, 2-1 Sun Belt Conference) then ran out the clock. McBride completed 22 of 32 passes for 279 yards for Texas State (2-4, 1-1).
ABILENE CHRISTIAN 24, LAMAR 17
Quarterback Peyton Mansell ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns and the Braves overcame a rough second quarter to top the Cardinals at Abilene.
Mansell staked Abilene Christian (4-3, 1-2) to a 7-0 lead on its first possesson of the game with a 39-yard TD run.
UTEP 19, LOUISIANA TECH 3
The Miners scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and the Jadrian Taylorled defense made it stand up in a win over the Bulldogs at El Paso.
UTEP (6-1, 3-0 Conference USA) got 3½ sacks from Taylor and forced four turnovers. Tyson Wilson had a red-zone interception to end one drive, and twice, the defense made fourth-and-1 stops. Tyrice Knight added an interception in the end zone with 4:30 left.
