WHEN THE TEXANS PASS

-

Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who interviewed for the Texans’ head coaching job, will be determined to not let Davis Mills have the success he had against the Patriots. Offensive coordinator Tim Kelly called an excellent game. He had Mills taking short drops and throwing quick passes. He had Mills throwing on the run. They mixed short, intermediate and long routes. Mills was the first rookie since 1970 to have at least 300 yards, three TDs and a 140 rating. The Texans are now 28th in passing (202.8). Mills has a healthier group of receivers. With Brandin Cooks being bottled up by the Patriots, Chris Moore had the best game of his career with five catches for 109 yards and a TD. Chris Conley had his best game of the season. The Texans are playing without starting tackles Laremy Tunsil and Marcus Cannon. Both are on injured reserve. They’re replaced by Geron Christian Sr. and Charlie Heck. The run blocking can’t be any worse and the pass protection has to be at least as good so Mills will have time to throw. The Colts are 20th against the pass (260.0). They have only 10 sacks, so Eberflus may have to get creative to make sure Mills comes back down to earth after his extraordinary performance against the Patriots.
