Speeding driver dies after running into light pole

A fatal accident shut both lanes on Scott in the Third Ward on Friday night, according to a tweet from Houston police.

A male driver was speeding when he sideswiped a black car and then slammed head-on into a light pole around 9:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Scott. He died at the scene.

Investigators are trying to determine whether alcohol was involved.
