SYLVIA A. NORTON

1938-2021

Sylvia A. Norton, 83 years old, returned to her lord on October 15, 2021. She was born on February 24, 1938 in Bunch Settlement, Texas to Marion S. Ashworth and Joseph C. Ashworth. Sylvia married James E. Norton on December 23, 1960 and together they began an adventure that lasted over sixty-one plus years.

Sylvia graduated from Lamar University with a degree in elementary education.

She continued her studies after marriage at both The University of Houston and The University of St. Thomas always seeking to be the best teacher she could be. Sylvia was a gifted and talented teacher teaching math for over 40 years most of which was at West University Elementary where her students often described themselves as “Nunus” in her honor.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her father and mother, survived by her loving and devoted husband, James E. Norton.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Colonial Oaks Brasewood, in Houston, Texas , for all the kindness and care they showed Sylvia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Texas Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at West University Methodist Church with Dr. Linda Christians officiating.
