WHEN THE TEXANS RUN

-

For a team that runs as much as the Texans, they still haven’t gotten the consistent production they’ve been looking for since the opening victory over Jacksonville. They’re 26th in rushing, averaging 87.2 yards a game. Against the Colts, they ran for more than 82 yards for the first time since that Jaguars game. Mark Ingram still gets the bulk of the carries and leads the team with 285 yards on 86 carries, a 3.1-yard average. He lacks speed and elusiveness. He’s a between-the-tackles power runner and with three injured starters missing from the offensive line, he doesn’t find many holes. He lacks the quickness to make quick adjustments. Phillip Lindsay and David Johnson get carries off the bench. Other than Lindsay’s season-high 35-yard run against the Colts, they’ve mostly been ineffective. If the Cardinals have shown a weakness through the first six games, it’s been stopping the run. They’re tied for 23rd (128 yards), but the Texans have reached that figure only once and none in the past five games.
