Moody Mansion, carefully restored and elegantly decorated with family furnishings from the 19th century, is open daily for self-guided tours at 2618 Broadway in Galveston.

Guests can visit 20 rooms and admire world-class décor, fine woods, architecture of the late 1800s, restored autos and family memorabilia.

Audio tours contain memories recorded by Moody family members, and exhibits focus on W.L. Moody Jr., founder of one of America’s great financial enterprises. Based originally on cotton, his businesses grew into banking, ranching, insurance, newspaper publishing, railroading, and hotels. He was among the wealthiest people in America in the mid-1900s.

The Moodys moved into the home with their four young children just three months after the 1900 hurricane.

Their eldest child, Mary Moody Northen, lived there and guided the family businesses and philanthropy for almost four decades after her father’s death in 1954.The 28,000-square-foot mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark and is home to the Galveston Children’s Museum on the ground floor.
