Latino coalition files lawsuit over maps
A coalition of Latino organizations and individuals has filed a lawsuit against state officials, challenging new redistricting maps approved by the Texas Legislature last week that they say intentionally discriminate against Hispanic voters based on race and national origin. The Legislature on Monday approved new redistricting maps intended to shape U.S. congressional and state voting boundaries for the next decade. But even as legislation setting the new districts awaited Gov. Greg Abbott’s signature to become law, the Latino coalition filed suit last week, seeking a federal court judgment declaring the maps discriminatory and unconstitutional.
