ALLEN BURL ALEXANDER

-

1930-2021

Allen Burl Alexander, 91, died on October 26, 2021, with his wife, Margaret of 66 years by his side at his home in Houston.

Allen was born on September 29, 1930, in Breckenridge

Texas to Gladys and Hubert Alexander. He attended Breckenridge High School and Texas Tech University where he studied architecture. He was a boy scout and he loved camping, fishing, and hunting.

Allen came to Houston in 1954 and began a career as a sales representative. He worked in the industrial fastener industry until he “semi – retired” he said, in 1980. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and home improvement, and had his own home repair/construction business, Alex Specialty Company.

He met his beautiful wife Margaret Elizabeth McLaurin in 1955 and married her on August 20, 1955, in Leggett Texas. They raised three children in their home in Houston where they lived since 1958.

Allen was an endearing, outgoing, handsome man with a wonderful sense of humor. No one enjoyed telling

or laughing at a joke more than Allen. “Paw-paw” coined many a phrase and clever saying in his day – so much that his grandchildren are gathering them into a book. He loved his family, friends, and relatives – and did so very well. Friends said that no

one walked away from Allen without a smile. His family believed he could fix anything

or building anything. He had talents and skills that enabled him to make major improvements and repairs on their home.

Allen was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Alexander and his father, Hubert Alexander of Breckenridge Texas. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth McLaurin Alexander of Houston and his three children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Rhonda Alexander Sampiere and Robert (Bob) Sampiere, Halie Sampiere of Houston; Fara Alexander Minor and Billy Minor of Katy, Benjamin Carter and Ashley Carter of San Antonio, Cameron Carter and Amy Carter of Dallas, Linden Carter of Houston; Jonathan (Jon) Alexander and Anne Alexander, Elaine Alexander, Mia Alexander, and Paige Alexander of Albuquerque. His great grandchildren, Ephram Fletcher Carter, Mark Asher Carter, Eden Claire Carter, Benjamin Canon Carter, Elizabeth Erin Carter, and Luke Allen Carter.

A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at Bellaire United Methodist Church, Bellaire, TX at 10:00 am on Friday, November 12, 2021, where he was an active member since 1959. A graveside service will be held at a family cemetery near Leggett Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bellaire United Methodist Church.
