Jon Lamkin was born in Kansas City, KS and passed in Houston TX on October 25, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Max and Betty Lamkin, long-time residents of Pasadena, TX, and his brothers Joel and Paul Lamkin. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Lynn, daughters Andrea Lamkin and Dena Lamkin both of Oklahoma City, OK, Joanna Sorenson and her husband Charles of McKinney, TX, brother Michael Lamkin and his wife Kathleen of Pomona, CA, seven grandchild­ren and eleven great-grandchild­ren. Jon earned his baccalaure­ate degree in music education from Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS in 1961 and his master’s in education from Sam Houston State in 1971. Jon began his 42-year teaching career in Deer Park Texas public schools and taught in the district until his retirement in 2003. Having broad interests, he was assigned to several different schools over the years and taught a variety of subjects ranging from elementary music to high school economics and was active in the Texas State Teachers Associatio­n. Jon was an organist who served at several area churches including South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena, TX and Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown, TX. Possessing a beautiful bass voice, he sang several years in the Houston Grand Opera chorus in the 70’s and was one of the first members of the Houston Chamber Singers. His service will be at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, TX on November 10 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity in his name or to the music ministry at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
