Joseph Anthony Arp, Jr. passed away November 1st, 2021 after a brief illness.

Joe was born March 7, 1938 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas to Joseph A. Arp and Tillie Sophia Arp. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin high school in 1956 and the University of Houston in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army, active duty 1961-1963, stationed in Augsburg, Germany and enjoyed his travels throughout Europe during that time. He served in the Army Reserves from 1963-1967.

Joe married Elizabeth Merriman Schmerbeck on April 20, 1968 and the founded Arp & Associates Realtors in 1975.

Joe was a life member of the University of Houston alumni associatio­n and the In Tempore Legacy Society. Since 1978, Joe enjoyed the friendship­s of the members of the Windsor Club, a men’s breakfast club.

Joe loved the city of Houston and its parks, bayous, and skyline and he bristled at anyone who would criticize or complain about anything Houston. He also loved Pontiacs and never forgave GM for discontinu­ing the brand.

In his retirement, it gave Joe great pleasure and satisfacti­on to write letters to the Chronicle and to call 311 to report significan­t potholes.

Joe was a wonderful, kind, and loving husband and loyal friend to many.

Joe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of 53 years, his brother Carl (Dorothy), his sister Margo (Max), and his sister Sonja (Adrian), along with many nieces and nephews.

Never forget to hug those you care about and tell them every day that you love them. Tomorrow is not a given.

A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 11th at 9:30am, at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham.
