Donald McGregor, Jr. September 14, 1933 October 25, 2021

Don McGregor was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

In Dallas, Texas, Don McGregor was born September 14, 1933, and moved to Houston with his parents in June 1949. In 1951 he was a member of the first graduating class of St Johns High School. Don attended Southern Methodist University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and graduated with a degree in business management. While studying at SMU, he met the love of his life, Margaret Bussell of Memphis, Tennessee, whom he married in 1955.

Don McGregor was an active civic and business leader throughout his adult life and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. One of the memorable highlights of Don’s civic life, while being Chairman of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, was being responsible for greeting and hosting King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain on a trip to Houston. Don’s business ventures were varied and kept him active-minded and interested throughout his life. He was a hotel owner and partner, Residential developer, RV Park Partner, Vice President of a Mortgage Bank, in addition to a life of service within the Methodist Church.

Mr. Donald McGregor was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Virginia E McGregor. He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret McGregor; sons, Stewart (wife Kathy), Scott (wife Darlene), Kent (wife Tina); daughter Ann Byatt (husband Michael); and ten grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, and a host of friends and associates.

To best understand the impact Don McGregor Jr. had on others’ lives would be the knowledge that those around him could often remark that Don McGregor remarkably only saw the good in them in the decades or years that someone knew him. He could radiate this accepting and loving personality that made him so loved and which will make him so missed.

God speed to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

The family gathered for a private graveside service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston as a precaution due to Covid.
