Nancy Kay Steele Meeks died suddenly December 14th at her home in Houston, Texas. She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on August 27, 1940. She spent her growing up years in Oklahoma where she attended the Oklahoma College for Women, majoring in voice and later transferre­d to Oklahoma State University.

Soon after she met the love of her life, Preston Meeks, she moved to Houston to begin a new chapter in her life. They were married on August 18, 1975.

Nancy and Preston raised their 5 boys together. They loved adventure and traveled extensivel­y for many years. They especially loved to take cruises. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmothe­r, and considered that her calling in life. However, she was also able to make time for many and varied interests. She was an active member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church and the Good News Sunday School class. For many years, she was a member of UMW and the Chancel Choir. Her outreach included volunteeri­ng at Memorial City Hospital and the annual Mission Stitchers’ Holiday Market fund raiser. She had a beautiful voice and used it to bring joy to many by entertaini­ng and singing in nursing homes. Nancy loved people and never met a stranger. She was a great friend to many and kept up with them regularly.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John Ralph and Iva Lee Steele and her son, Christophe­r. She will be missed by those who survive her, including her husband, Preston, their sons Matthew Watson and wife, Jennifer, Gerry, Alan & Douglas Meeks and grandchild­ren Titus & Laurel Watson and many dear friends who loved her.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 27th, 2021 from 6-8 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. The following day a memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021 at 2PM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, The Meeks family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
