Wheel zooms in, out quicker

- Helpline@chron.com

Q. My eyesight is not what it used to be. Is there a way make webpages and my email a bit larger so it’s easier to read?

A. Most apps will let you selectively zoom in and out, which enlarges and shrinks what you are seeing on your screen. The options for this are usually found in the View menu.

But there is a quicker, more convenient method of doing this that utilizes the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Most of us know we can use the scroll wheel to move things up and down, but there also is the option of using the scroll wheel to zoom.

If you hold the Control key while using the scroll wheel, you will see what I am talking about. This works when you are browsing the web, reading email or even using applications such as Word and Excel.

For me, I don’t always want to have everything on my screen constantly enlarged, and this trick makes it easy to quickly change the view to make certain things more readable. And it allows me to go right back to the way it was before I zoomed in.

Q. Is the Windows 10 21H2 cumulative update safe to install?

A.

The 21H2 update, also known as the Windows 10 November 2021 Update, is safe to install. And I recommend it, as it is almost always a good idea to keep a computer’s operating system as as up to date as possible.

Feature updates tend to be more involved than general security updates. But overall, the process tends to be pretty troublefree unless you have underlying system issues that need to be addressed.

The 21H2 update is what is known as a feature update, which Microsoft releases every year to add new features and stability to the Windows system.

While not as crucial as security updates, I recommend installing these as they come out. It will help with future updates as they are released.
