Ravens’ Huntley tests positive

-

Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley has been placed on the reserve/ COVID-19 list and will miss Sunday’s pivotal game against the Bengals.

With Lamar Jackson also out, third-string quarterback Josh Johnson will start the showdown between AFC North leaders.

Huntley, who’s impressed in reserve duty this season, missed practice Friday with an illness and tested positive for the coronavirus Saturday. Jackson hasn’t practiced since he was carted off the field two weeks ago with an ankle injury against the Cleveland Browns. Practice squad quarterback Chris Streveler was placed on the reserve/ COVID-19 list Thursday.

That leaves Johnson, a 35-year-old journeyman signed less than two weeks ago, as the team’s only available quarterback.

Cincinnati got back cornerback Chidobe Awuzie from the COVID-19 list but also had to place two defensive linemen, D. J. Reader and Wyatt Ray, on that list.

Saints reportedly called Brees: Down to their fourth-string quarterback because of a COVID-19 outbreak, the New Orleans Saints reportedly tried to lure former star quarterbacks Drew Brees and Philip Rivers out of retirement to play against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

With Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian on the reserve/COVID-19 list and rookie Ian Book set to start, the Saints reached out to Brees and Rivers, according to NOLA.com.

Both rejected the idea, leading the Saints to sign veteran Blake Bortles.

Rams’ Whitworth put on COVID list: The Los Angeles Rams placed veteran offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.

Odds and ends: Eagles coach Nick Sirianni has cleared the NFL’s COVID-19 testing protocol and will be on the sideline for Sunday’s game against the Giants. … Jets coach Robert Saleh was ruled out for the game against the Jaguars on because he didn’t clear COVID-19 protocols Saturday. … Kansas City’s star tight end Travis Kelce and wideout Tyreek Hill have been activated.
