Houston Hurricane & Security Products donates to GHBA Benefit home

-

Hundreds of Greater Houston Builders Association members donate year after year to the GHBA Benefit Homes Project that builds homes at market value through donated materials and services, and then sells the homes at market value.

Proceeds go to two local charities.

Houston Hurricane & Security Products has been donating nearly every year since its inception in 2009.

The company offers one of the largest selections of shutter products in the Houston market and uses a consultative sales approach so that its customers can achieve the level of protection they want and the appearance they desire.

The company services the Texas Gulf Coast, from Corpus Christi to Beaumont, and employs 40 people.

Houston Hurricane & Security Products donated a steel hurricane panel system for the Chesmar Benefit home that was built in Lago Mar. The company’s commitment to HomeAid and also Operation Finally Home (OFH), the two charities that are the beneficiaries, is what inspires its participation.

“The soldiers and their families who are in the OFH program volunteer to make great sacrifices for us and we are happy to be able to support them when they come home,” said Frank Mistretta. “It is rewarding for us to give back to our community.”

“It is companies like this that make the Benefit Homes Project so successful,” said Patrick Mayhan, chairman of the project. “With these donations, we have been able to sell enough homes to raise over $12 million since the fundraiser’s inception in 1980. These generous companies reflect the nature of the home building industry in Houston. We are looking forward to another successful year….”

Chesmar Homes broke ground on its Hillcrest plan for the Benefit Homes Project in late 2020.

The pandemic did not hinder the contributions by the residential construction industry, as the home was built with more than 60 companies contributing.

Even the lot was donated by Land Tejas — its 18th lot donation represents

$1.2 million in real estate. Chesmar’s Benefit home sold in May.
