Realtor showcases beauty of historic Galveston

Realtor David Bowers with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Gary Greene is excited to share the possibilities Galveston Island has for homeowners.

His specialty is historic Galveston and also homes on Galveston’s West End.

“I moved from Houston to live in an older home and to be part of an interesting community,” Bowers said. “Galveston is loaded with history that is intertwined with its architecture. It makes for a fascinating career of selling these types of properties. It is always a good time to buy in Galveston.”

Bowers said he resides in an 1899 Victorian home in the historical district of Galveston and has represented the historical district in various capacities. Bowers served on the Galveston City Council from 19942000.

“It has been an honor to be a past president of the Galveston Historical Foundation and a past president of Galveston Association of Realtors. I received an award for the ‘green’ features including solar panels installed in my Victorian home. It was an honor to serve the Galveston community on City Council and particularly two years on the Galveston Wharves Board, whereupon a … vote successfully brought Carnival Cruise Lines to Galveston,” he said.

Bowers was born in Kansas, grew up in Vermont, and returned to Kansas for college and law school. His exposure to real estate started in 1976 during law school. He clerked in a family abstract company in Ottawa, Kansas, and later ran chains of title for a title company in Topeka, Kansas.

He came to Houston in 1978 as a corporate attorney, closing commercial transactions with a title company. Bowers then managed the downtown commercial closing office until 1989, when he got into real estate brokerage and moved to Galveston.

“Historic architecture has always been a passion of mine, and Galveston is the perfect place to pursue it. As a corporate attorney closing commercial transactions, I solved unusual title problems. As a Realtor, I’ve come across title issues that I guided parties to a successful conclusion,” he said.

His talents have been recognized over the years.

Bowers was the 2010 president of the Galveston Association of Realtors and designated 2011 Realtor of the Year by the Galveston Association of Realtors.

Outsmart magazine, published in Houston, designated him Galveston Realtor of the Year for 2011 and 2012.

He hopes to share the beauty of Galveston with homeowners.

“Texas has a fascinating history. I’ve been fortunate to appreciate it firsthand. Whether it was the 47th floor of a skyscraper in downtown Houston or pre-Civil (War) house hit by a cannonball in the 1863 Battle of Galveston, the lasting value of real estate is alive and exciting,” he said.
