Robbery attempt turns deadly at Cracker Barrel

-

A Cracker Barrel manager has died following a shooting during an apparent attempted robbery Saturday morning in Harris County, authorities said.

The Precinct 4 Constable’s Office responded around 6:15 a.m. to the shooting in the 14700 block of North Freeway, where they arrived and learned a female manager was shot once, a Harris County Sheriff ’s Office deputy said.

An employee had been ringing a bell to be let inside the store, which was closed, when a metallic gray vehicle — what appeared to be a Dodge Charger — pulled up, according to the deputy.

A man got out of the vehicle’s passenger side, coming up and asking whether they were open, while the employee was trying to go inside, the deputy said. That’s when the man tried to force his way and snatch a purse, and ended up firing a round at a manager, according to authorities.

The manager was sent to a hospital, where she was in serious condition and having surgery, the deputy said during a media briefing. The constable’s office later tweeted the woman shot “has succumbed to her injuries.” Authorities say no one else was injured.

Authorities ask those who have information about the shooting or the suspect vehicle to call the violent crime unit at 346286-3168.
