Charles Edward Mace, beloved husband, father, grandfathe­r, and greatgrand­father, died at age 95 on January 7, 2022 after a long, well-lived life. Charlie was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on October 13, 1926. He was the son of the late Carl V. and Marie (Dulle) Mace and “Brother” to his beloved late sister, Mary Lee. Charlie graduated from St Peter’s High School in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Charlie proudly served in the US Army and the US Air Force during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Upon completion of service, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineerin­g from the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri. He then started his 38-year career at Gulf Oil, subsequent­ly Chevron. It was at Gulf Oil in Pittsburgh where he met his future wife, Nancy McGuigan. Nancy and Charlie were married on September 5, 1953 at Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church in Pittsburgh. After their wedding, Charlie took Nancy on a grand journey. They moved to Lyons, Kansas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Fort Worth, Texas; Roswell and Hobbs, New Mexico; Jackson, Mississipp­i; and finally, to Houston, Texas in 1973.

Charlie devoted his life to his loving wife, their four children, nine grandchild­ren, and four great-grandchild­ren. He loved Notre Dame football and St. Louis Cardinals baseball, pouring over the box scores for the Cards each morning. Charlie was known as a kind soul with a quick wit and great sense of humor. A faithful servant of the Lord, he was a longtime parishione­r of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Charlie was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Serra Club. He also spent many years volunteeri­ng for other organizati­ons and was honored to serve as President for both the Fonn Villas Civic Associatio­n and Memorial Area Ministries (MAM).

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and his daughter Mary Jane. He is survived by sons Bob (and wife Odette); and Tom (and wife Heather); his daughter, Elizabeth Causey (and husband Rick); nine grandchild­ren: Andrew Cardwell (and wife Sara); Frank, John, and Jim Mace; Janie Smith (and husband Dusty); Chris Causey (and wife Laura); Ricky Causey (and wife Melanie); and Kaleigh and Ryan Flynn; and four great-granddaugh­ters: Kaydee Cardwell and Ella, Scottie, and Caroline Smith.

Charlie’s family is grateful for the wonderful caregivers, Robyn Jones, Hannah Enamo, Rakieve Furgassa, Mulat Nitrework, and Segnete Beyene, who were so helpful to him in his later years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church at 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas. The Mass will be preceded by praying of the Holy Rosary at 10 am. The Rite of Committal will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society (11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024) or to Memorial Area Ministries (1625 Blalock Road, Houston, Texas 77080).
