Rice women fall in four overtimes

The Rice women dropped a quadruple overtime heartbreak­er Saturday afternoon at Charlotte, falling 88-83 in the first 60-minute game in program history.

Rice (5-8, 0-5) was forced to play with eight active players and five of them registered 40+ minutes against the C-USA preseason favorite 49ers (8-6, 4-0).

Rice’s Ashlee Austin had 30 points. Haylee Swayze added 19 points while logging a careerhigh 59 minutes and Malia Fisher had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Joanne Allen-Taylor and Audrey Warren combined to score 27 points as the Longhorns won at Fort Worth.

Aliyah Matharu hit two 3pointers as the Longhorns (14-3, 4-2 Big 12) built a 16-10 lead that ballooned to a 38-19 lead at intermissi­on.

Lauren Heard paced TCU (6-9, 2-4) with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

MEMPHIS 57, HOUSTON 53

Madison Griggs and Emani Jefferson scored 13 points apiece as the host Tigers held off the Cougars.

Tiara Young led UH (9-10, 2-5 AAC) with 11 points.

Makinna Serrata had 20 points and nine rebounds as the Islanders defeated the visiting Huskies.

Dariauna Lewis had 26 points and 18 rebounds and Nigeria Jones scored 20 points as the Bulldogs won at Houston.

Jada Perry paced TSU (3-11, 3-4 SWAC) with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Kirdis Clark and Diana Rosenthal scored 17 points each as the Panthers won at home.

JD Notae scored 17 points as the host Razorbacks defeated the Aggies.

The Razorbacks (14-5, 4-3 SEC) have won four consecutiv­e SEC contests. The Aggies (15-4, 4-2) have dropped consecutiv­e games for the first time this season.
