VIOLET HARLAN

1920-2022

-

Violet BeVille Harlan was born November 17, 1920 and passed away on March 4, 2022, at the remarkable age of 101. Vi was raised in Belton, Texas, but spent most of her adult life in Houston. She was married for 38 years to Don Langston Harlan who passed away in 1981.

She was a graduate of Texas State College for Women (Texas Woman’s University). She taught speech in the El Campo School District and then worked for Eastern Airlines before devoting herself full time to her family. When she wasn’t busy with her children’s activities and projects, Vi loved to play bridge and was active in multiple bridge groups with many friends. She belonged to a garden club and entered many flower shows. She was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She participated in United Methodist Women’s activities and taught Sunday School for five-year-olds. Vi was a friend to all and never met a stranger. She knew all the neighbors on her street in Camelot Woods, Hunter’s Creek Village, and was always available to lend a hand.

As her children grew older, Vi loved to travel with friends and family. But her greatest pleasure was time with her family. She took great pleasure in preparing holiday meals and creating family traditions. Each of her grandchildren will certainly remember trips with their Mum Mum to the Houston museums, especially the Cockrell Butterfly Center.

She is survived by daughters Paula Kay Harlan and Donna Lynne Harlan, son Larry Langston Harlan and wife Nancy; grandchildren: Jessica LaGrone and husband Jim, Kendall Heard and husband Mitch, Kyle Harlan and wife Lauren, Jason Harlan and wife Madeline; and great-grandchildren: Drew LaGrone, Kate LaGrone, and Beckett Heard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
