PATRICK QUINCY ASKEY

1955-2022

-

Patrick Quincy Askey was born July 21, 1955 in Baytown, Texas to parents Anabel and Warren Askey. He passed away March 12, 2022 in Tomball, Texas after a lengthy battle with numerous health challenges. He lived life to the fullest, especially enjoying gatherings of family and friends, with plenty of love and laughter, and his favorite food was a t-bone steak and baked potato with all the trimmings!

Pat grew up in Baytown with his five siblings- Ann Alexander, Bill Askey, Jean Thacker, Bob Askey, and Liz Flint, who have many funny stories of Pat (the fifth of six children) who loved practical jokes and comedians. Pat was always the cut-up, the funny one, with a crazy sense of humor. It was always a surprise to see what Pat might pull out of his backpack on a hike, like a big jar of pickles, or what Dollar Store gag items he might put in the “trade-around” at Christmas parties. As a teenager Pat played baseball, and as a “leftie” pitcher he was known for his mean curve ball and sometimes wild fast ball.

After completing high school at Spring Branch High School in Houston, Pat began his career in the oil and gas industry in the mail room of the company his father and three other partners founded, PACE Engineering. With on-the-job training and hard work Pat became a Draftsman and was known as a troubleshooter and problem-solver during his 40 years in the business. He literally worked his way up from the bottom to become a valued member of teams on many projects as a piping designer.

Pat was fortunate to work for over 20 years as a contractor in Hawaii, which he considered Paradise, especially on days at the beach with friends and his faithful dog Bandy. However, Pat never forgot his roots and always considered himself a Texan first. He was a loyal fan and bettor on the Houston Oilers and the Astros. Pat was very keen on discovering new and interesting musical groups and enjoyed attending many incredible rock and roll concerts.

Pat also worked in Colorado and north Texas and loved joining the extended family or friends on vacations in Estes Park, Las Vegas, Galveston Island, Hawaii, and cruising. One of his favorite activities was to go whale watching in the clear blue Pacific waters. Not surprisingly, in respect of Pat’s wishes, some of his ashes will be spread in the waters near Hawaii. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate and to give thanks for Pat’s life in the near future.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, and best friend Pat Armatta. He leaves behind his siblings and their families, including brotherin-laws Michael Alexander and Bryan Flint, and sister-in law Ellen Askey, and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins in Oklahoma and Kansas. He will also be missed by his special friends Mary Jo Ferullo, Matt and Terri Gilbreath, Elroy Bishop, Melissa Miller, Nick Nickols, and Dominick Ferullo, who was like a son and much loved by “Uncle Pat”. Pat was a kind, funny, and generous person who will be missed by many!

Friends and family are welcome to add and share your remembrances of Pat or condolences for the Askey family on the website of National Cremation Services at
