-

1935-2022

Janis Grammar, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 14, 2022.

Janis was born on December 22, 1935 in Runge, Texas to Lee and Gladys Dromgoole. Her family moved to Victoria, then to San Antonio where she graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1954. She was a proud member of the Purple Jackets.

Janis met the love of her life Gene Grammar on a blind date and married him 8 months later on August 6, 1955 in the chapel at St. Mary’s University. One month later the couple moved to Houston where they celebrated 66 years of adventure together.

Janis worked at Texaco until the birth of their only child, Leslie. When Gene became a Burger King franchisee

Janis pitched in as needed to make the business successful. Always a fierce competitor, she learned to play tennis and made many friends playing as a member of HLTA and just for fun.

In 1986 Janis became a franchisee of Minuteman Press with Leslie. After a successful battle with breast cancer in 2003 and 2004, Janis announced her retirement to take care of herself and Gene.

Janis loved hosting parties, both at their Houston home or at their home in Galveston. Spending time with friends and family, especially her three grandsons, brought her great joy.

Janis is survived by her husband Gene; daughter Leslie and her husband Ernest Davis; grandsons Wayne Davis and wife Lauren; Philip Davis; and James Davis; and many other extended family.
