Joseph Montgomery died on April 9, 2022.

He was born May 1, 1929 to Lucile Montgomery and Fred Montgomery, Sr., the fourth of five sons all of whom served in either the Korean War or World War ll. All five graduated from Texas Tech University.

Joe graduated from Sweetwater Texas High School in 1946 as salutatori­an, was on the all-district basketball team, and state semi finalist in tennis doubles. Tennis was the sport he enjoyed until he was 83.

Joe entered Texas Tech in 1946 and graduated with honors with a degree in Chemical Engineerin­g in 1950. He has endowed a scholarshi­p for aspiring Chemical Engineerin­g students. Joe was president of the Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, was on the varsity tennis team where he lettered his freshman year. His second degree was obtained in 1965 in Industrial Administra­tion from Purdue University.

From 1951 to 1954 he served as an officer and industrial hygienist in the United States Air Force. Civilian work experience­s include Magnolia Petroleum Company, Cosden Petroleum Corporatio­n, Humble Oil and Refining Company and Exxon Chemical Americas. After his retirement from Exxon Chemicals in 1986 he enjoyed time for volunteeri­ng with the Georgetown Library’s Second Hand Prose Shop, and at Lone Star Circle of Care as well as church responsibi­lities. He and wife, Eda, enjoyed travel experience­s in the United States and Europe, Central America, and Russia.

Joe was a cradle to grave member of the Methodist Church, most recent being First United Methodist Church of Georgetown after moving there in 1993. Joe also found comfort and spirituali­ty in attendance at St. Andrews Presbyteri­an Church in Austin.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Eda; brother Dudley and wife Patty; daughters, LeeAnne Holmberg, Ann Tietyen and husband Joe, Leslie Przybyzews­ki and husband Joe, three grandchild­ren, six great grandchild­ren, and four great great grandchild­ren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to either of the churches listed above or to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
