Ed was born in Daphne, Alabama, on September 21, 1929, and died in Houston on April 19, 2022. He was always proud of growing up in “Aggieland” where his father was a math professor at Texas A&M University. Ed graduated from TAMU with an architectu­re degree (class of ‘51) and subsequent­ly served two years in the Korean War with the USAF. He married Jane Upshaw in 1955, and they raised three daughters (Donna, Julie, and Ellen). Ed joined the CRS architectu­ral firm in 1957 where he specialize­d in master plans for campuses and communitie­s in the U.S. and overseas. He later started his own consultant firm, Finlay Associates. Ed launched a second career as President/CEO of Oldham Little Church Foundation of Houston, serving from 1987-2011. He was an active member and deacon at Houston’s First Baptist Church where he helped guide church building programs. He also led a building program at Houston Christian High School. Ed leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty-six years, his three daughters (Donna and Hoyt Savage, Julie and Noel Wassom, and Ellen Finlay and Scott Scherr), four grandchild­ren (Scott and

Dani Savage, Keith and Linda Savage, Kyle and Kelli Wassom, and Adria Wassom), and five great-grandchild­ren.

A Celebratio­n of Life service is set for Tuesday, April 26, at 1:00pm at Houston’s First Baptist Church. The service will be live streamed on the “HFBC Memorial Services” Facebook page.
