- By Jan Burns | FREELANCE WRITER

Interior designers annually predict and talk extensively about the latest home design trends.

If you are looking to freshen things up in 2022 and need a little inspo, pick and choose from the ideas below to decorate your home so that it reflects your own aesthetics.

Go for the bold

People will want bold and bright combinations of colors and decorative elements, to add “wow” to their rooms. There will be a mix of vibrant colors, lively patterns, and touches of shine.

“I’m a classic traditional but with a glam twist,” said Ursula Carmona, design and DIY blogger. “I love taking something that has a timeless style but then infusing it with rich jewel tones and a pop of gold.”

Traditional trend

There’s been a lot of change in the world over the past few years. As a result people now are yearning for a sense of comfort. Traditional details are making a comeback. Natural materials like marble and wood will become more popular again. A traditional interior design scheme is timeless.

Sustainability

Designers are incorporating earth-friendly materials into their work. Global trend forecaster Patti Carpenter spotlights natural elements, such as sustainably sourced warm woods with exposed grains and knots; marble and stone in earthy greens, browns, and taupes; and natural fibers such as woven rattan and caning.

Chic chocolate hues

Chic chocolate tones and lighter camel colors are warm and feel welcoming. Choices include brown sugar, hot brown mocha, deep reddishbrown, and chocolate sundae. It’s expected that chocolate hues will gradually replace the gray that has so recently been a top choice for interior designers.

Colorful window treatments

Designers are predicting that window treatments such as curtains and drapes will be full of color this year. They can be the “jewelry of the room.” Patterns with a burst of two or three colors are very popular and can make a real impact on a room.

Bringing the outside in

Materials are used that bring the outside into the home, incorporating a large number of natural plants, paint, and fabric to create a visual connection with nature. This includes green in all shades, particularly Sherwin Williams’ 2022 Color of the Year: Evergreen Fog (SW 9130).

Vintage finds

A desire to connect with the past has churned up new interest in old furniture. Check out flea markets to look for cool vintage finds. Combine these with custom furniture pieces to furnish your space in your own unique, pleasing way. ■
