What to do with flipped folders

- Helpline@chron.com

Q: The content of one of my larger file folders has been turned upside down. The subfolders in the main folder are now at the bottom of the list and individual documents are at the top. Is there an easy way to rearrange the files and documents back to where they were before?

A: When looking at your files and folder in File Explorer you have a number of options to display items in the folder.

If you look to the top, you will see headers that says things like name, date modified, type and size.

If you click on any of those headers it will sort the contents based on that header.

To get back where you were before, click on name and the contents will sort based on the file and folder names. If it’s reversed, just click name again to re-sort.

Q: Can you recommend a basic program for viewing videos on my PC?

A: For viewing video files on a PC, nothing compares to VLC Media Player by VidoeLAN.

VLC Media Player is easy to install and will let you play video files in digital formats like MP4 or MKV as well as from the DVD drive on your PC.

There are versions of the application for Windows, Mac and Linux and can be downloaded from www.videolan.org.

Another application to consider is InfranView. What I like about this program is that while it will play video files, it will also let you view just about any image file you can find and do some basic editing.

I like this program for creating slide shows as well as for optimizing images for email and posting to the Web.

You can download it from www.irfanview.com.
