SUSAN BROCHSTEIN

April 2, 1949 - May 19, 2022

-

Susan Friedlander Brochstein was born to Bernice and Silas Friedlander on April 2, 1949. She attended Roberts Elementary, Pershing Middle, Bellaire High School, and The University of Oklahoma.

Susan’s life centered around family. A committed daughter, she put her parents on a pedestal throughout their lives and in memory following their deaths. Susan cherished every second of being a mother to her two children: Ashley Block Rutberg and Tyler Kendall Brochstein.

As a grandmother, “Gaga” brought so much play, love and laughter into the hearts of her grandchildren: Hunter & Savannah Block; Jake Rutberg; and Alexander & William Brochstein.

Susan was exceptionally involved in the lives of her kids and their kids and constantly doted on them. She was a dog (Bichon Frise) lover and also enjoyed reading, talking with her friends, and traveling to San Francisco. Susan was an expert shopper and fashionista. Incredibly fitting given her radiating love and affection, Susan collected heart-shaped jewelry and trinkets. She cared deeply for her friends and hosted a valentine’s luncheon at Carrabba’s for many years.

Susan was a beautiful person, inside and out. She had a heart of gold and was kind, witty, creative, and the most committed mother and grandmother. The love, patience and generosity she showed them knew absolutely no bounds. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Susan is survived by loved ones, including her sister Nancy and husband Russell Ducoff and bonus children Lindsay Brochstein and Josh Rutberg.

The family will be having a private graveside with a memorial service to follow at 11am on Monday, May 23rd, at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N. Braeswood Blvd., Houston, TX 77096. Donations in Susan’s honor can be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
