Nancy went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 5th after a lengthy battle with dementia and multiple myeloma. She was born in Philadephia to O.A. and Dorothy Feldon, but the family moved to Chicago when she was six. Growing up in Winnetka Nancy graduated from New Trier High School and Northwestern University where she majored in English Literature and developed her life- long love of reading. She and Richard Burke Doss were married in Winnetka in 1956. Raising three children kept her busy but she volunteered at the Junior League and the Service Club of Chicago and taught Sunday School at Christ Church.

In 1968 the Doss family moved to Houston where Nancy continued to be active in the Junior League, Theta Charity Antiques Show and as a docent and board member at Bayou Bend.

For Nancy life was a faith journey and her focus was serving the Lord. She found many wonderful opportunities to live out her faith at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church where she was a member for over 50 years. Altar Guild, The Order of St. Luke’s, Daughters of the King and especially the Global Prayer Group, were dear to her heart and ministry. She also spent 7 years teaching bible study to the Day Program participants at Amazing Place.

Being one of two girls with a very athletic father Nancy attended Chicago Bears and Northwestern football games on a regular basis, developed a lifelong love of golf and tennis, and delighted in attending the sporting and theatrical events of her grandchildren. She was a devoted traveler, exercise fiend, needle pointer and antique lover. For over 25 years she and Dick spent wonderful summers in North Carolina at Grandfather Golf & Country Club where they developed so many special friendships.

Nancy wished to thank her treasured friends for all the love and joy they brought into her life,

She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Dick, and cherished son,

Rick. She is survived by her daughter Tracey Brown and husband Frank, her daughter Ginger Doss and partner Andrea Sumers. She truly delighted in every moment with her grandchildren and great grandchildren – Rob, Christine and Grace Dobbins; Paige, Blake, Molly and Hugh Mackay; Knox Dobbins; Heather, Mark, Evie, Alex and Lucy Harris; Chris and Melanie Brown; Rowan and Willow Sumers. She is also survived by her precious sister, Judie Pierce, whom she deeply loved, and her husband, Elisha G. Pierce III; her nephews, E. George Pierce IV and Andrew Dow Pierce and their families.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church on Monday, June 6th at 3:00 pm in Christ Chapel with Rev. Dr. Russ Levenson presiding. The internment will be held later in the garden of the Winnetka Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Rd, Houston, TX 77056 or the charity of your choice.
