Tempers flare in Yankees’ victory

NEW YORK — On a steamy afternoon that saw yet another dustup between Josh Donaldson and the White Sox, DJ LeMahieu hit an early grand slam and the New York Yankees beat Chicago 7-5 in a contentiou­s contest Saturday.

A week after they scrapped in Chicago when Tim Anderson objected to a hard tag by Donaldson, the two stars sparred again. This time, White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal joined the fray, too.

In the third inning, Donaldson had rounded second base after the final out and began jawing with Anderson as the teams came off the field.

Padres 2, Giants 1: Joe Musgrove pitched seven scoreless innings to improve to 5-0 and Manny Machado homered as San Diego won at San Francisco.

Dodgers 7, Phillies 4: Mookie Betts homered, doubled and singled and knocked in three runs to spark Los Angeles to a win at Philadelph­ia.

Braves 4, Marlins 3: William Contreras homered twice, Ronald Acuna Jr. extended his two-season onbase streak to 28 games and Atlanta won at Miami.

Rays 6, Orioles 1: Randy Arozarena hit two home runs and Jeffrey Springs 5 2⁄3 scoreless innings as Tampa Bay won at Baltimore.

Cardinals 5, Pirates 4: Paul Goldschmid­t had four hits and drove in two runs to lead St. Louis to a win at Pittsburgh.

Red Sox 6, Mariners 5: Rafael Devers drove in three runs with a pair of home runs and Christian Vazquez broke a tie with an run-scoring single in the eighth inning as Boston won at home.

Blue Jays 3, Reds 1: Bo Bichette hit two home runs, Alek Manoah matched his career-high by pitching eight innings, and Toronto won at home.

Angels 5, Athletics 3: Michael Lorenzen allowed three hits over six scoreless innings as Los Angeles won at home.

Rockies, Mets split:Sterling Marte homered and New York beat host Colorado 5-1 in the first game of a split doublehead­er. Brian Serven hit a pair of two-run homers — his first two major league hits — as the Rockies took the second game 11-3.

Diamondbac­ks 7, Cubs 6 (10): Daulton Varsho drilled a two-out, three-RBI double in the 10th inning then scored on a throwing error by Andrelton Simmons to give Arizona a comeback win at Chicago.

Brewers 5, Nationals 1: Andrew McCutchen and, Luis Urias homered and Brandon Woodruff allowed one run in six innings to give host Milwaukee a win.

Twins 9, Royals 2: Joe Ryan struck out six and Minnesota capped the win with a four-run ninth inning at Kansas City.
