Taylor Morrison Benefit home recruits vendors for materials

-

Hundreds of Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) members have participated in the Benefit Homes Project throughout its 42year history. Two to three homes are built each year with donated everything, so when it is sold at market value, proceeds are presented to two local charities — Operation Finally Home and HomeAid Houston. The Benefit Homes Project has raised more than $12 million since it began.

Not one year has gone by since then that generous GHBA vendors/ suppliers and trades have not made this happen. Everything from the land, surveys, construction materials, and closing fees have been donated. The companies that participate range from large national organizations, to local oneperson operations.

“Even when you consider that homes are built even during difficult economic times, that says something about the hearts of the individuals in our industry who make this project a success year after year,” said Jennifer Keller, president of the GHBA. “Our GHBA members often contact us asking when the next home will be built so they can plan to participate.”

This means that through HomeAid Houston, homeless men, women, children and veterans will have a safe, stable environment to begin rebuilding their lives. It also means through Operation Finally Home, wounded veterans and their families will own a home that is constructed to meet their needs through the direction and vetting by the OFH team.

Two Benefit homes will be built in 2022. The first recently broke ground in Grand Vista where Taylor Morrison is building its Dahlia Plan. They also donated the homesite, as they are the developer of the community. The second home will break ground in early-summer and it is being built by HistoryMaker Homes. They are building their Hemlock “W” elevation in Sunterra, a Land Tejas development. Land Tejas donated the homesite which will be their 19th lot donation for the project.

“The GHBA Benefit Homes Project is very fortunate to also have two builder teams lined up for next year as well,” said Scott Merovitch, chairman of the Benefit Homes Project and Chesmar Homes city president. “Empire Communities and ASGi Homes will break ground in Q4 this year and begin actual construction the first quarter of 2023.”
