Elizabeth Jean Farmer passed peacefully with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, the 8th of June 2022, in Houston.

Jean was born on the 7th of July 1931, in Yonkers,

New York, to Lee Roy and Florence Keener. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended Holy Name School, Our Lady of Victory School, and St. Francis School of Nursing (R.N.). In 1952, Jean married Joe S. Farmer of Texas and moved to College Station, where she practiced nursing while Joe completed his studies at Texas A&M University. She selflessly raised three children, moving over a dozen times and living in Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, settling in the Houston area for much of her adult life. She frequently volunteere­d at the San José Clinic and was Chairwoman of the CCD program at

St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Joe; her half-brother, W. Donald Meakin; her older sister, Barbara Jones; her identical twin sister,

Joyce Kappers Alatorre; and her granddaugh­ter, Mary Elizabeth Farmer. She is survived by her sons, Dr. J. Christophe­r Farmer and his wife Dr. Margaret of Scottsdale, Arizona, David Farmer and his wife Tasha of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, Dr. Kathryn F. Prappas and her husband James of Houston; her grandchild­ren and their spouses, Dr. Christophe­r and Susan Farmer, Andrew and Fatima Farmer, John and Laura Farmer, Abigail Farmer, Joseph Farmer, Michael Prappas, and Kathryn Prappas; step-grandchild­ren, Davinn and Gretchen Boersema; and seven greatgrand­children. She was loved dearly by Margaret Farmer of Dallas, Texas.

To strangers, Elizabeth will be remembered as a generous giver and a joke-teller with excellent timing. To her friends, Jean will be remembered as a listener and advicegive­r. To her family, “Mom,” “Pita,” “Meme,” or “Teet” will be remembered as a shining example of God’s love.

Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family during a visitation at nine o’clock in the morning, on Friday, the 17th of June, in the Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel at

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston, where the Recitation of the Holy Rosary will commence at half-past nine o’clock in the morning, immediatel­y followed by the Mass of Christian Burial to commence at ten o’clock, where Father Phi Nguyen is to officiate.

The family will gather for a private entombment at College Station City Cemetery.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, memorial contributi­ons in Jean’s memory may be directed to The Houston SPCA, 7007
