Braves, Phillies extend win streaks
ATLANTA — Dansby Swanson blooped a threerun single, Ozzie Albies added a grand slam in an eight-run seventh inning and the Atlanta Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-4 Saturday for their 10th consecutive win.
Ronald Acuna Jr. and Austin Riley also homered for the defending World Series champions, on their longest winning streak since winning 14 in a row from July 26 to Aug. 9, 2013.
Phillies 4, Diamondbacks 0: Zack Wheeler and four relievers combined on a six-hitter and Bryson Stott hit a two-run home run as Philadelphia won at home. The Phillies have won nine straight for the first time July 29-Aug. 6, 2011.
Yankees 8, Cubs 0: Aaron Judge hit two of the Yankees’ six homers off rookie Matt Swarmer, and New York won at home for its 10th win in 11 games.
Twins 6, Rays 5: Big league batting leader Luis Arraez hit his first career grand slam and Minnesota won at home.
Cardinals 5, Reds 4: Tommy Edman hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, lifting St. Louis over Cincinnati at St. Louis. Paul Goldschmidt’s streak of reaching base ended at 46 games with an 0-for-4 day for the Cardinals.
Rangers 11, White Sox 9 (11): Loud chants of “Fire Tony!” broke out at Guaranteed Rate Field as manager Tony La Russa and Chicago blew a five-run lead.
Giants 3, Dodgers 2: Clayton Kershaw gave up a go-ahead homer to Thairo Estrada in the second in the three-time Cy Young Award winner’s return from the injured list, as Los Angeles lost at San Francisco.
Tigers 3, Blue Jays 1: Rookie Beau Brieske earned his first major league victory as Detroit won at home.
Nationals 8, Brewers 6: Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz and Josh Bell hit consecutive home runs in the fifth inning, and host Washington gave Milwaukee its eighth straight loss.
Athletics 10, Guardians 5: Seth Brown hit a grand slam and Oakland stopped a 10-game losing streak — its longest in 11 years — with a win at Cleveland.
Orioles 6, Royals 4: Tyler Nevin hit a three-run home run, Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays added an RBI each to lead Baltimore to a win at Kansas City.
Padres 2, Rockies 1 (10): Manny Machado hustled home on a two-out wild pitch in the 10th inning, lifting host San Diego over Colorado in the first game of a doubleheader. San Diego manager Bob Melvin and bench coach Ryan Christenson entered COVID protocols after the opener.
