Always a cowboy!

Lyle Edward Yeakley, age 89, passed away on June 9, 2022Lyle was born in St Joseph, Missouri on August 15, 1932, to Cressie and Edgar Yeakley, attended first grade in a one-room schoolhous­e, graduated from Benton High School and join the Navy.

He proudly served as a yellow shirt (plane pusher) on the aircraft carrier the USS Valley Forge during the Korean war. He played catcher on the Valley Forge baseball team. As a member of the team, he played baseball in ports from Ireland to Cuba to Nova Scotia.

Upon returning from the war, Lyle had various jobs – he worked for the railroad, at the stockyards in St. Joseph, as a landscapin­g contractor, but mostly he was a car salesman and a cowboy. He moved to Houston in 1968 and called it home ever since. Lyle loved fishing, quail hunting, bird dogs, horses, cows, the St Louis Cardinals, and the Houston Astros.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar, and Cressie Yeakley, his first wife, Katherine Stockton Yeakley, his sister, Lawana Ford and his son, Brain Yeakley.

Survivors include his wife, Kathi, and children: Danny Yeakley of Austin, TX, Ronnie Yeakley (Traci) of Startzvill­e, TX (Canyon Lake). His stepdaught­ers Karri Young (Chris) of Round Rock, TX and Kasey Werlin (Craig) of Austin, TX, grandchild­ren Dylan Hyatt, Avonlea Yeakley, Tenby Werlin, Katie Yeakley, Reece Werlin, and Isa Young. Other survivors included several nieces and nephews.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 4 – 7 at the Quail Valley City Centre, 2880 LaQuinta Drive, Missouri City, TX 77459.T
