Paredes lifts Rays with walkoff blast

TAMPA, Fla. — Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer in the eighth inning and a two-run single with two outs in the ninth, sending the Tampa Bay Rays to a 6-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

Ji-Man Choi and Vidal Brujan reached on two-out walks before Jonathan Aranda’s pinch-hit single loaded the bases. Paredes then hit an opposite-field liner to right for his game-ending single. He got the Rays within one in the eighth with his team-leading 10th homer.

Ralph Garza Jr. (1-2) worked two scoreless innings for the win in Tampa Bay’s fourth straight one-run game.

Braves 5, Dodgers 3: Marcell Ozuna hit a tiebreakin­g homer in the eighth inning and host Atlanta recovered after blowing a three-run lead to beat Los Angeles.

Twins 6, Rockies 0: Chris Archer kept his strong June going with five scoreless innings, and three Minnesota relievers closed out a one-hitter in a home win over Colorado.

Red Sox 4, Guardians 2: Alex Verdugo hit a threerun homer, Jarren Duran had four hits and an RBI, and visiting Boston beat Cleveland for its sixth straight victory. Verdugo’s two-out rocket to right gave Boston its final lead in the sixth inning.

Giants 9, Reds 2: Logan Webb threw six shutout innings, and host San Francisco snapped a three-game skid with a win over Cincinnati.

Rangers 3, Nationals 2: Adolis Garcia homered leading off the bottom of the ninth inning, giving Texas a victory over Washington at home. Nelson Cruz hit a tying two-run homer for the Nationals after Nathaniel Lowe had given Texas the lead with a two-run shot.

Mets 5, Marlins 3: Pete Alonso hit two leadoff homers, including a go-ahead shot in the eighth inning, and New York beat Miami on the road.

Brewers 5, Blue Jays 4: Corbin Burnes pitched into the eighth inning, Andrew McCutchen and Mike Brosseau homered, and Milwaukee beat Toronto at home.

Cardinals 5, Cubs 3: Ivan Herrera hit a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for his first career RBI and host St. Louis beat Chicago.

Athletics 9, Royals 7: Tony Kemp hit a two-run homer, Seth Brown and Sean Murphy combined for four RBIs, and visiting Oakland beat Kansas City.

Orioles 6, White Sox 2: Jorge Mateo homered and doubled to lead visiting Baltimore over Chicago Sox, giving them their first four-game winning streak this season.
